Healthy Homemade Pizza Dough Recipe

This homemade pizza dough, made with wheat flour, is a healthier alternative to store bought.

Preparation: 30 minutes | Cook: 10 minutes | Serves:  2 thin crust pizzas or 1 thick crust

Homemade Pizza Dough


  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 package yeast (0.25 ounce)
  • 1 1/4 cup bread flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil


  1. Dissolve the sugar in warm water and add the yeast.   Let stand about 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine the flours and salt.
  3. Add the yeast and olive oil to the flour mixture and stir well.  Knead with your hands in the bowl for about a minute.
  4. Cover and let rise for about 20 minutes while you prepare your toppings.
  5. Divide in half.  Roll out on a floured surface until desired size.
  6. Place on your desired pan.
  7. Poke with a fork before baking to prevent bubbles.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes, or follow directions for your pizza recipe.
