Peanut Butter Cookies with Heat Recipe

I picked up these delicious peanut butter cookies at a bake sale yesterday. They start out like your typical peanut butter cookie, moist and nutty, with just a hint of curious spice but then finish with a heated kick that lingers for some time afterwards. I was so impressed, I had to hunt down the baker to get the recipe. .Luckily each baked item was tagged so it didn’t take long to find Anna over at Cookie Madness. Armenian Mamoul Recipe

Armenian baked goods are quite a treat and these cookies, called mamoul, are no exception. The egg-shaped mamoul is stuffed with a nut filling, baked to a light golden brown and dusted with powdered sugar after baking. These cookies simply melt in your mouth.

Salted Bittersweet Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

I had just finished eating the last cookie from an incredible recipe I had recently found online at about the time I began work on my post for The Sandcastle Girls by Chris Bohjalian. This novel is partly set in Syria during World War I. I wondered if I could play with this recipe a bit and give it an Armenian/Middle Eastern exotic twist. The recipe already had pistachios and sea salt, so I added some orange oil and substituted the dark chocolate chips for bittersweet chocolate chips. The result: WOW!

Fried Oreo Recipe

Everything tastes better deep-fried! The Oreo is my favorite store-bought cookie and when I heard a model on American’s Next Model mention the “deep-fried Oreo” I had to give it a try. The Oreo is dipped in pancake batter then fried until golden. I actually found that is wasn’t necessary to deep-fry. Pan-fried worked just as well.

Almond Tuiles Cookie Recipe

These thin crispy cookies look like the roof tiles that they are named after. To make the curved shape, cookies fresh from the oven are placed over a rolling pin and allowed to harden. The batter can be spread into a round shape directly on the cookie sheet, but I found using a round pan (from my son’s Easy Bake Oven) gave these treats a beautiful shape.

Almond Sponge Cookie Recipe

These light cookies have a delicious almond taste. The recipe calls for ground almonds and I find a coffee grinder works very well for this (I have a separate coffee grinder that I use when I cook). Although in The Elegance of the Hedgehog these cookies are finger shaped, I used my heart pan in honor of Valentine’s day.
