Korean Steamed Buns Recipe

My daughter Amy and I can nearly wipe out the entire batch of these Korean steamed buns in one sitting. They are so delicious, and although a tiny bit time consuming, they are not at all difficult to prepare. Experiment with different seasonings, vegetables and meats until you find your own favorite combination. These stuffed and steamed buns can be served as an appetizer or main dish.

The ramen noodle originated in China, but with the 1958 invention of the “instant” ramen noodle by Momofuku Ando, Taiwanese-Japanese founder and chairman of Nissan Foods, its popularity skyrocketed worldwide. In fact, the instant ramen noodle was voted the greatest Japanese invention of the 20th century by popular poll! One last tidbit …. South Koreans consume the greatest amount of instant ramen noodles per capita per year!

Burmese Vegetable Curry Recipe

This Burmese-style vegetable curry is subtly flavored with coconut milk, ginger, curry powder, and turmeric. The flavor of this dish is exotic but not overpowering. The vegetables listed in this recipe are what I used when preparing the dish for this post, but any of your favorite fresh vegetables can be substituted.

Burmese Semolina Cake Recipe

Semolina Cake is a dense coconut-flavored snack cake made with semolina flour — the same flour used to make pasta. I decreased the sugar a bit from the original recipe and since I love cardamom, I increased that spice a bit as well. Semolina Cake is delicious served with hot tea or coffee.

Stir-fried Shrimp and Mushroom Recipe

Ginger and mushrooms are the primary flavors in this stir-fry shrimp and mushroom dish. It is not spicy so feel free to add red pepper flakes or hot pepper sauce, to taste. Also, if you like a thicker sauce, dissolve 2 tablespoons of cornstarch in 2 tablespoons of water and bring the dish to a boil after it is added.
