Tahini Cookies Recipe

If you’ve never tried tahini cookies before, now is the time. Tahini is a paste of ground sesame seed similar in consistency to raw peanut butter. The tahini gives these cookies a rich, unique flavor. Try a few. I’ll be surprised if you aren’t hooked!

Prep: 15 minutes | Bake: 12 minutes | Yield: 3 dozen cookies

Tahini Cookies

  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup tahini
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

  1. Preheat the oven to 325ยบ F. Line baking sheet with parchment or wax paper.
  2. Cream margarine and sugar together. Beat in tahini and vanilla. Mix in flour and baking powder. The dough will be slightly crumbly.
  3. With damp hands roll cookies into golf ball sized balls. Place each ball on a baking sheet and slightly depress each cookie with the bottom of glass. Sprinkle cookies with sesame seeds and slightly depress each cookie again to press the sesame seeds into the dough.
  4. Bake for 10-12 minutes. The cookies should only be very lightly golden when done. Do not overcook.
  5. Dust cookies with powdered sugar and allow cookies to cool completely on baking sheet.
