School Lunch Cookies Recipe

These soft and chewy jumbo cookies are loaded with chocolate chips, M&M’s, and oats, and will surely light up faces young and old.


Prep: 15 minutes | Chill: 1 hour | Bake: 10-11 minutes | Yield: 3-4 dozen (depending on cookie size)

School Lunch Cookies


  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 1/2 cups Old Fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup M&Ms


  1. Beat butter and sugars until light and fluffy.  Beat in eggs, vanilla, and baking soda until mixed well.  Add the remaining ingredients in order given, beating well after each addition.   Chill dough in refrigerator for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  2. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.  Line large flat baking sheets with parchment paper.  Drop by rounded tablespoons onto parchment paper.
  3. Bake cookies for 10-12 minutes until lightly golden at edges.  DO NOT OVERBAKE!
