Orange Custard Recipe



This refreshing creamy dessert is bursting with orange flavor. Orange custard topped with whipped cream and orange zest would look beautiful in a variety of glassware.

Prep:  15 minutes | Cook:  5-7 minutes | Servings:  4-6 depending on serving glass

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 1/2 cups half and half
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • Orange zest for garnish
  • Orange slices for garnish

Instructions

  1. Whisk the sugar, flour,  salt, egg yolks, half and half and orange juice in a saucepan and cook over medium heat, whisking constantly until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and orange zest.
  3. Fill serving glasses halfway full and chill at least 2 hours.
  4. Beat the whipping cream with an electric mixer at medium speed until foamy.  Gradually add the 2 tablespoons of sugar.  Continue beating until soft peaks form.   Top custard with a generous amount of whipped topping and garnish with the orange zest and a slice of orange.
