Little Bee’s Sweet 16 Cake Recipe

This layered white cake is perfect for any Sweet 16 party. You can never go wrong baking a homemade cake with perfect icing.

Prep:  15 minutes | Bake:  25-30 minutes | Servings:  6-8

Birthday Cake



  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Food coloring (red, blue, yellow, green)
  • Homemade icing (recipe below)
  • Sprinkles and Bees (from craft store) for decoration


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  3. Add butter, milk, eggs, and vanilla.
  4. Blend on medium for 2 minutes.
  5. Pour batter into two 9 inch greased pans.
  6. Add three drops of each color of  food coloring and swirl into batter with knife.
  7. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
  8. Let cool for two hours.
  9. Place one cake on plate and ice.  Place second cake on top and finish icing.   Decorate with sprinkles and bees.

Homemade Cream Cheese Icing

Prep Time:  3 minutes


  • 2 cups of powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup of butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon milk


1.  Mix together for 1 minute on medium speed with handheld mixer.  Use spatula to scrape sides.

2.  Ice cake and enjoy.
