Gache Melee Recipe

Gache Melee is an apple dessert served in Guernsey. You can serve it warm as is or decide to go a la mode.

Prep:  15 minutes | Cook:  2 hours | Serves:  6-8

Warm Baked Apple Deesert


  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 stick butter
  • 6 medium red apples
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon all spice
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 egg


  1. Peel and dice apples into bite size pieces.
  2. In a large bowl, cut the butter into the flour.
  3. Add all other dry ingredients and apples. Mix well.
  4. Add the water and the egg and stir until well blended.
  5. Pour into your favorite pie dish.
  6. Cook at 250° for 2 hours or until crispy.
  7. You may want to add extra sugar and cinnamon to the top of this dish for an extra kick.
