Dried Apple Pie with Walnut Crumb Topping Recipe

This apple pie recipe uses dried apples which saves you from having to peel and slice the apples. The crunchy walnut topping is the perfect finishing touch.

Prep: 15 minutes | Cook: 45-50 minutes | Serves: 8

apples, walnuts, pie crust

  • 3 1/4 cups loosely packed dried apples
  • 3 cups apple cider
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 unbaked 9 inch pie crust

Walnut Crumb Topping:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened

  1. Place the dried apples and apple cider in a large saucepan. Heat to boiling and cook for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool while preparing the rest of the pie ingredients.
  2. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  3. For topping, stir together the brown sugar, flour, walnuts and cinnamon. With a fork, mash in the softened butter until mixture is crumbly. Spoon oat crumb mixture evenly over apples.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cooled apples as well as 1/3 cup of the apple cider* from the pan and mix well. Pour into the 9 inch pie crust and top with the walnut crumb topping.
  5. Bake at 375°F for 50 minutes or until topping is browned. If the top starts to burn, cover with foil.

*Pour the rest of the apple cider into a mug and enjoy!
