Cranberry Orange Custard with White Chocolate Recipe

The white chocolate, orange and cranberries go together beautifully in this parfait style dessert.

Prep:  15 minutes | Cook:  5-7 minutes | Servings:   6

cranberries, oranges, custard, recipes

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 1/2 cups half and half
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1 bag white chocolate chips (12 ounces), chopped

  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 bag of frozen cranberries (16 ounce)

Whipped Cream

  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • Orange zest for garnish

  1. Whisk the sugar, flour,  salt, egg yolks, half and half and orange juice in a saucepan and cook over medium heat, whisking constantly until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and orange zest.
  3. Fill serving glasses halfway full and chill at least 2 hours.
  4. Cranberries:  In a saucepan, dissolve the sugar in the orange juice over medium heat.  Add the cranberries and simmer, stirring occasionally, until you first see the skin burst on the cranberries.  Remove from the heat, cool and then place in the refrigerator and chill at least an hour.
  5. Beat the whipping cream with an electric mixer at medium speed until foamy.  Gradually add the 2 tablespoons of sugar.  Continue beating until soft peaks form.
  6. Layer the chopped white chocolate chips over the custard, then layer the whipped cream.  Using a slotted spoon, top with the cranberries and garnish with additional chopped white chocolate chips.
