Very moist and very rich deep-dish chocolate brownies topped with a creamy mocha frosting.

Prep:  10 minutes | Cook:   25 minutes | Serves:  12-16

Cocoa Mocha Brownies

  • 1 cup butter, softened to room temperature
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 3/4 cup cocoa
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 cup butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons instant coffee
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cocoa
  • pinch of salt

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9 x 13″ pan.
  2. Beat together butter and sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla, combining well. With wooden spoon, individually stir in cocoa, flour, baking powder and salt, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Bake at for 30-35 minutes or until edges lightly browned.  Do not overcook. Cool completely before frosting.
  4. For frosting, beat together butter and powdered sugar.  Beat in 1/4 cup whipping cream, a bit more if needed for proper consistency.  In a small bowl mix together instant coffee, vanilla, cocoa and salt until coffee is dissolved.  Spread over brownies.
