Toad in the Hole Recipe

Toad in the Hole is a Sausage and Yorkshire Pudding Recipe.  The pudding with rise and crispen as recipe cooks.  Does this look like a toad poking his head out of hole?   Try to lose the toad image.  This sausage and Yorkshire pudding dish is scrumptious!

Prep Time:  30 minutes | Cook Time: 45 minutes | Serves:  6-8

Sausage and Yorkshire Pudding


  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 teaspoon dry ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 6 links of quality pork sausage
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil


  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  2. In medium bowl, mix together flour, dry ground mustard, and salt.  Add eggs and mix well.  Slowly whisk in milk.  Keep whisking until batter is smooth and creamy.  Allow batter to rest for 15 minutes.
  3. While batter is resting, heat oil in large skillet.  Add sausage links and brown all sides quickly.  Stir in chopped onion and cook until onion is soft and lightly browned.
  4. Remove about a tablespoon or bit more of olive oil from skillet and add to 9 x 13″ baking dish.  Place the baking dish with oil in the hot oven.  When oil is sizzling remove from oven.  Add sausage and onion to baking dish, then pour in batter.
  5. Bake the toad for 30 to 45 minutes.
