Weekend Cooking: The Gypsy Picnic
I was hoping to post this yesterday in case any of you in the Austin area wanted to check out the Gypsy Picnic but between baseball games, the school carnival and the Texas Book Festival, I never made it back to my computer until late last night. Oh well, something to look forward to for next year! Hopefully the Texas Book Festival and Gypsy Picnic occur on the same weekend again next year…books and food are my two favorite things!
The Gypsy Picnic, aka Trailer Food Festival, is an event where food trucks, trailers and buses converge along the very scenic Auditorium Shores in Austin. I wasn’t allowed to take my camera inside so I couldn’t get a close up of the delicious food, but if you ever tasted anything from these unique eateries you know what is in store for you.

For the recipes from these beloved food trailers, you can check out Tiffany Harelik’s book called Trailer Food Diaries: Serving Up the American Dream One Plate at a Time. She is one of the masterminds behind the Gypsy Picnic.

Those trailer food festivals seem to be gaining in popularity. I wish they’d have one around here.

What an awesome weekend — book fest and food fest at some time. Wow! We don’t have food trucks here (that I’m aware of) but I sometimes wish we did. I need to check out the cookbook. Too bad you couldn’t use your camera.

Wow!! Sounds like something I’d enjoy if I lived near there. Sadly I don’t.

I’m learning so much from weeken cooking bloggers. Being English, and living in Lanzarote, I’ve never heard of these events. I can see why you were in seventh heaven this year with books and food combined!
