The House at Riverton by Kate Morton

Last September, Buttery Books chose The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton for our book club and we all loved it! Nearly a year has passed and it is, without doubt, time for a Kate Morton fix. We decided for this September to go with her first novel, The House at Riverton. Grace Bradley, an elderly woman haunted by a dark secret, recounts her time in service to the Hartfords, a prominent English family, during the years surrounding World War I. Grace, an only child, comes to Riverton at age fourteen, and is immediately enthralled with the spirited Hartford children, David, Hannah, and Emmeline. Grace and Hannah are close in age and Grace eventually rises to the ranks of Hannah’s personal maid and confidante.
