It’s Monday! What are you Reading?

Book Journey It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey. To let others know what you are reading and to see what others are reading, head on over to her site.

Today I am finishing up Mayflower:  A Story of Courage, Community and War by Nathaniel Philbrick.  And, with Thanksgiving around the corner, I have also picked up a copy of Thanksgiving:  Recipes for a Holiday Meal by Lou Pappas.  The book I decided to start reading after an awesome trip to the library is Alice Bliss.

Mayflower book cover Mayflower by Nathaniel Philbrick tells the story of the hardships of the pilgrims, from freezing weather, starvation and altercations with Natives.  I have a new appreciation for having a warm bed and a grocery store around the corner after reading this eye-opening book.
Thanksgiving: Recipes for a Holiday Meal by Lou Pappas. This book has some of the classic dishes like roast turkey but also some unique recipes such as maple-glazed acorn squash. The Gingersnap Pumpkin Pie looks amazing!
Alice Bliss book cover Alice Bliss by Laura Harrington. “When Alice Bliss learns that her father, Matt, is being deployed to Iraq, she’s heartbroken. Alice idolizes her father, loves working beside him in their garden, accompanying him on the occasional roofing job, playing baseball. When he ships out, Alice is faced with finding a way to fill the emptiness he has left behind.”

What are you reading on this wonderful Monday?

  4. I read horror novels for the entire month of October, but somehow it has never occurred to me to read anything relating to Thanksgiving! Mayflower sounds like something I would like. Enjoy your week!

  5. How nice to open my email and find a “google alert” to your website — and your lovely recommendation of my book. Thank you! I’ve just started to visit book clubs this fall — I notice that’s once of the things your focus on — and it has been an amazing experience to connect with readers.
Let me know how you like the book.
