Grandma Was a Flower Farmer

Grandma was widowed with 8 young children to raise and a vegetable farm to keep going.  She worked so hard all her life.  Later, when Grandma was older, she still had her vegetable farm, but also became a flower farmer.  I was very young and remember playing in Grandma’s flower fields and helping pick the flowers to take to market when the time came.

Grandma was also an incredible baker and was renown for her pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, and raisin bread.  Her raisin bread recipe dates back to the early 1900′s.  My Aunt Josie started baking Grandma’s raisin bread in 1-pound coffee cans sometime in the ’60′s and that’s the way I remember eating it.  It’s also the way I continue to bake it today.
