Grandma’s Pumpkins
Autumn is my favorite time of year! The air crisp, the leaves crackling underfoot, football, my anniversary, Thanksgiving, and the time when I am most often reminded of Grandma. Grandma was a Belgian vegetable and flower farmer. And though the spring and summer months remind me of her flowers, it is the fall that reminds me of her most.
I loved traipsing through Grandma’s fields every fall with my brothers and sisters and cousins picking out the perfect Halloween pumpkins, and helping load the rest to take to market. I remember Grandma’s pumpkins were the biggest, the orangest, the best! Then we’d all head to Grandma’s warm kitchen to delight in the smell of her pumpkin pies and pumpkin bread baking. *sigh* Grandma would make 20 pumpkin pies at once! I have Grandma’s pumpkin pie recipe (revised down for 1 pie!) and her pumpkin bread recipe (another favorite!) and I enjoy baking these goodies when the weather starts cooling.

Read more about Grandma and be sure to try her Belgian Raisin Bread recipe too!
