Tej (Ethiopian Honey Wine) Recipe

Tej is a wine made from fermented honey and a type of hops called gesho and is usually made in Ethiopia as a home brew. 

Prep:  3 minutes | Cook time:  3 minutes

Tej Ethiopian Honey Wine


  • 1 bottle (750 ml) mild white wine (I used a Riesling)
  • 2 cups water
  • 4 tablespoons honey


  1. Combine the water and honey in a small saucepan over low heat and stir until the honey is dissolved.  Add the wine and stir.    Serve chilled.
