Sage Limeade Drink Recipe

The sage and lime flavors in this drink go so well together.  This would also taste great as an adult beverage with a little vodka or tequila added to it.

Inspired by Like Water for Chocolate

Prep:   10 minutes  + 1 hour rest time    Cook time:   about 10 minutes     Serves:  8

Sage, Limes, beverage

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plus 3 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • Juice from 10 limes +  zest from 2 of the limes
  • About 15  sage leaves, chopped

Instructions

  1. Zest 2 limes so that you have large pieces with none of the bitter white part of the peel.  Add 1 cup water, sugar, lime zest and chopped sage leaves to a saucepan and heat to boiling.  Turn the heat down and simmer until all the sugar is dissolved, stirring occasionally.  Remove from the heat and let stand for one hour.
  2. Meanwhile  juice the 10 limes and set aside.  Strain the sage syrup into a pitcher and add the lime juice.  Stir, then add ice and water to fill the pitcher and stir again.
