Hard Lemonade with Vodka Recipe

Fresh squeezed lemons make this a refreshing summertime drink.  The vodka makes it fun!

Inspired by The Beach House and Fall of Giants and The Chaperone

Prep time:  15 minutes   Serves:  6

lemons, vodka

Ingredients

  • 1 cup + 3 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • zest of 1 lemon
  • 6 large lemons
  • 1 1/2 cups vodka
  • Sliced lemons for garnish

Instructions

  1. Use a knife to zest a lemon so that you have large pieces (they will be removed from syrup later).  See picture below.
  2. Add 1 cup of water,  sugar and lemon zest to a saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves.  Remove from heat.
  3. Meanwhile, juice* the 6 lemons.
  4. Add the lemon juice and vodka to a pitcher.
  5. Remove the zest from the saucepan and add the syrup to the pitcher. Add enough water to fill the pitcher, about 3 cups.   Stir to mix.
  6. Place a few cubes of ice in a glass, add a lemon slice, then fill the rest of the glass with ice.   Pour in the hard lemonade.  Garnish with a lemon slice.

I used the juicer attachment on my stand mixer, but you can use a hand lemon juicer as well.

  1. So delicious! My new favorite drink! I made it for one serving. I made the full amount of syrup to keep in the fridge. For the individual drink, I used the juice of one lemon, 1/4 cup vodka mixed with 3/4 cup water and 1/4 cup of the syrup. Poured over ice in a beer glass and had some mix leftover for a half glass. Perfect!
