Mushroom Marquees Recipe

These little mushroom marquees are a great way to begin any book club party. The mushrooms, cream cheese, Parmesan cheese and french fried onions come together for a flavorful appetizer.

Prep Time:  10 minutes | Cook Time:  4 minutes | Servings:  6 – 8

Mushroom Appetizer


  • 4 ounce can mushroom pieces and stems, drained and chopped
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2.8 ounce can french fried onions
  • Chopped chives for garnish
  • Loaf of french bread
  • Olive oil


  1. Place oven rack 6 inches from heat source.  Preheat broiler.
  2. Slice french bread 1/2 inch thick.  Lay slices on cookie sheet and brush with olive oil.  Broil for 1 minute or until golden brown around edges.  Keep an eye on this step, the bread can burn very easily.
  3. Gently mix together drained and chopped mushroom pieces, mayonnaise, and softened cream cheese.  Add grated Parmesan cheese and french fried onions and mix gently.
  4. Place heaping tablespoon of mushroom mixture on top of each toast slice and broil for 3 minutes or until mixture is lightly brown and bubbling.  This is another step you need to keep an eye on.
  5. Snip chives on top and let cool for 5 minutes.  Transfer to serving dish and enjoy.
